The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state of
plotting to rig during Saturday’s House of Assembly election.
Its Director of Publicity, Kunle Oyatomi, said in a statement on Friday that the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) was “violently mobilising to snatch victory in 16 of the
26 House of Assembly seats.”
Mr. Oyatomi said the move was part of the plot to
put the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a comfortable position “in the
desperate bid to eventually impeach the governor.”
However, the incumbent 26 lawmakers in the Osun
State House of Assembly are all members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The ruling party vowed to resist alleged plans by
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rig in the election.
Mr. Oyatomi said, “Violence is not a component of
democracy and any political party that indulges in it, as the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) allegedly plans to do on Saturday, should be decisively
contained and sanctioned by the law-enforcement agents.
“Osun is peaceful and security agents should do
everything within their power to keep the state peaceful.”
But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has
debunked the allegation, stating that the party is not a sponsor of violence.
“We call on the people of Osun State
to go to the polls en masse on Saturday and vote peacefully. They should be
law-abiding and vote for whoever they want to vote for without fear,” Osun Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Publicity Secretary, Bola Ajao, said.
